Artwork → Era

The 1970s were the breakthrough decade. It opened with 365 Skies — a painting of the sky for every day of 1970 — which brought Salvatore Pecoraro national attention and established the sky as his defining subject. The work toured through the decade, and in 1975 his paintings travelled with a group exhibition through eight countries in Central and South America, ending at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro. Serious critics took him up: the San Francisco Chronicle, the Los Angeles Times, Artforum, Art News. Meanwhile the sky pushed off the wall entirely, into cast resin, fluorescent light, Plexiglas, and mirror, and finally into the Prismatic Constructions — the longest continuous body of work of his career, and the most widely reviewed.
