The Formative Years series gathers the earliest surviving work of Salvatore Pecoraro, made largely as a student between 1949 and 1963. Watercolors on paper and small oil studies on canvas board show him working through the conventional materials of an art education, years before the geometry and earth tones that would define his mature style. The series closes with MTP’s Debut of 1963 — the first acrylic painting in his catalogue, and the beginning of a medium he would use for the rest of his career.
